It has three international airports in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda that are served by main European airlines such as SAS, Lufthansa, LOT, AirBaltic, Ryanair, Wizzair that operate to and from these airports on a daily basis. It takes on average 2-4 hours to reach Kaunas or Vilnius from any other main European city all year round. Each airport is located around 10-15 minutes car drive from city centres. It also takes 10-15 minutes car drive to reach the NEWMAN Bariatric Clinic from the Kaunas international airport.

Three-lane highways link the main cities of Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda and the drive from Vilnius all the way to the Baltic coast (330km) generally takes three to four hours. Klaipėda in the west is the country’s only ferry port, and it’s possible to travel to Lithuania by boat from Sweden (Karlshamn) and Germany (Kiel/Sassnitz).

If you are driving, Lithuania is a member of the EU’s Schengen common border zone and there are no passport or border formalities if entering from Poland or Latvia. In case you are travelling from outside the EU, please contact the nearest Lithuanian embassy or consulate to check if you may require a visa to enter the country.

Local train services are operated by Lithuanian Rail, with regional hubs in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. The Lithuanian Rail website is a model of user-friendliness and has routes, times and prices in English. Whether you take the bus or the train depends very much on the route. For common train journeys like Vilnius to Kaunas, the train is often more comfortable and better value than the bus. Ticketing services is here. For other routes, the opposite might be true. Bus services are also rather enjoyable offering high comfort vehicles, free Wi-Fi onboard and convenient schedules. More information about the bus service and ticket booking can be found here.
